About Refresh

A small studio that would rather be replaceable than indispensable

We build websites owners can operate, on accounts owners control, at prices agreed before the work starts. Everything below explains what that costs us and why we do it anyway.

How we started

It began with a quote for changing opening hours

Refresh started because two of us kept meeting the same business owner. They had paid for a website three years earlier, could not change a word of it, and had been quoted four figures to update their opening hours. The site was not broken exactly. It was just no longer theirs.

We picked Webflow because it solved that specific problem. The build quality of a hand-coded site, with a CMS the owner can actually operate, on an account that stays in their name. Everything else we do follows from that decision.

The marketing side arrived by accident. Clients kept launching a good site and then asking us who should send traffic to it. Handing that to a separate agency meant explaining the build twice and waiting a fortnight for a landing page, so we hired for it instead. It is now roughly half the work we do.

We are deliberately small. Every project has a named strategy lead, designer, developer and marketing lead, and you speak to them rather than through an account manager. It limits how many projects we take at once, which is a trade we are happy with.

What we hold to

Four commitments, each with a cost attached

Values are only worth printing if they occasionally lose you money. These four do.

  1. Quote the real number

You get a fixed price on the scoping call, before any work starts, and it does not move unless you change the scope in writing. If we get the estimate wrong, that is our problem to absorb, not a change order to send you.

  2. Say when something is a bad idea

We have talked clients out of rebuilds, out of ad budgets, and out of features they had already decided on. It costs us revenue in the short run and it is the only reason anyone stays with us for a third year.

  3. Build it so we are replaceable

Your Webflow workspace, your Figma file, your ad accounts, your analytics. Documented class names and labeled CMS fields. If you want to move to another agency, it should take an afternoon and no argument.

  4. Report the number that pays the bills

Impressions are not a result. We report qualified inquiries, cost per inquiry and the pages that produced them, and we bring the months that went badly to the call as well as the good ones.

Who works on it

Four roles on every project, and you meet all four

We do not publish headshots and job titles, because the people can change. What does not change is that these four roles exist on your project and that you speak to them directly rather than through an account manager.

  • Strategy lead

Works out what the site has to do before anyone draws it

Runs the discovery workshop, audits your current site and analytics, and writes the brief that everything else is measured against. They are the person who will tell you that four practice areas will earn more than nineteen.

    • Discovery workshop and written brief
    • Fixed price and schedule
    • Scope decisions throughout the project
  • Designer

Draws every page at three widths, then defends the decisions

Turns the brief into wireframes, then into finished layouts and a small design system. Reviews happen as comments on the Figma file, and every comment gets a written answer rather than a silent revision.

    • Wireframes and sitemap
    • Layouts at 1440, 768 and 390
    • Type, color, spacing and component system
  • Webflow developer

Builds it so the next person can understand it

Sets up the class system and CMS collections first, then assembles the pages. Runs the QA pass against a written checklist: five screen widths, four browsers, keyboard navigation, contrast and Core Web Vitals.

    • Class system and CMS modeling
    • Build, interactions and integrations
    • QA, accessibility and launch
  • Marketing lead

Fills the site once it exists, and reports honestly on it

Owns the keyword map, the ad account structure and the analytics setup. Writes the monthly one-pager and runs the call where you get to ask why a number moved. They also flag when to spend less.

    • Keyword map and SEO roadmap
    • Google Ads and Meta account structure
    • GA4 events and the monthly report

Why we cap it at four projects

Four active builds is what this team can run without anyone becoming a bottleneck or a message going unanswered until Monday. Taking a fifth would mean hiring a project manager to sit between you and the work, and the layer we would be adding is exactly the one clients tell us they hated at their last agency.

In practice it means we sometimes give you a start date six weeks out, or tell you we are not the right fit for a deadline. We would rather do that than take the work and let it slip.

Work with us

If any of that sounds like the agency you wanted last time

Tell us what you are trying to fix. If we are not the right people for it, we will say so on the call and point you at someone who is.
